Robert Van de Graaff graduated from the University of Alabama... instead of=
claiming him, they prefer to claim football championships. What a mistake=
.

My understanding is that even though MIT seems to claim credit for the VdG,=
that he had his early ideas at U of A, which led to him building the first
one actually at Princeton before he went to MIT. Fascinating fellow.

Google "Jemison Van de Graaff" for some interesting details on the family a=
nd the still existing home-now-museum in Tuscaloosa.
