Dan,

I just tried it with the built-in camera, and it worked ok, (no webcam =
needed).

Open Photo Booth app and set Displays to 640x480.
(IF you can get close, point your MacBook at the subject, and frame it =
in)

I normally use a Canon DV recorder, set to record onto a scratch tape,
going through Firewire, into iMovie, as Steve posted.
(the secret to run-on sentences.. commas!)
