We have a demo setup and lab activity wherein we roll a basketball on
a track toward and/or away from a motion detector, and LoggerPro graphs
position, velocity and acceleration. The track may be level or inclined.
There is also a demo with the motion detector mounted high and aimed
down to graph the motion of a freefalling basketball.
One year for a Science Olympiad bungee jump event we put a motion
detector on the floor, under a protective screen to capture the closest
approach of the bungee jumping object. It worked beautifully despite my
reservations about it's abilities at the time...
