Living on a farm, we churned our own butter. One night a truck turned over that was loaded with the yellow stuff. We had yellow butter for quite a while.
Oh for the good old days, sometimes.

By law, it was white, the color of lard or Crisco. You got a packet of yellow dye with it you could mix in to make it more palatable.
I'm not quite old enough to remember this, but have heard the stories.
