Here's the story so far...

Bought a cheep hair drier, removed the heating coil. Installed coil into a 3' section of stove pipe. Moved it around slowly at 1/4 length of pipe. No sound.

Removed a short section of the heating coil and wrapped it around some clay standoffs to form a planar heating element. Nothing sound.

What's the trick?
