Subject: High Speed Video of Jacob's Ladder

Thought you would enjoy this one:

Our Jacob's ladder is an old spark timer. The voltage alternates
polarity at 120 Hz. If you look closely you can see different
sputtering effects on the positive and negative potentials. I'm
guessing that it's the positive terminal which accelerates the nearby
electrons to high speed and knocks off a cloud of atoms from the
wire. Does anyone know the mechanisms for sputtering better? Would
positive ions do be brighter?
