See my 8C10.35 demo which is fairly simple.

I basically take a 4 liter beaker, ( 1 or 2 liter will work ) and place
it on a rotating table and let her spin for about 30 seconds. Stop the
table and the water continues to spin. Place a drop of food coloring
just off center and watch the spiraling. Watch with a camera from above.
Spinning the table first and then stopping it works better than spinning
up from a stop.
