David,

Place a microphone at 90 degrees from the speaker and hook it to a scope.
When you get near resonance the signal to the microphone will get large
on the scope. If you trigger the scope on the signal going to the speaker
you will also see the phase shift as you pass through resonance.

Use very cheap 500ml beakers. Tap them with your fingernail to check for
the resonance, and use this to set the starting frequency.
