I have lots of stories: Here are two.

Like Cliff, I was asked by a customer in a sports store if I was an employee
because he thought the device I was holding up to the lantern mantles was
one of those inventory handhelds. I didn't have the beeper going on my
Geiger counter.

Once I was in a grocery store and I heard over the intercom the store
manager responding to a checker's request for service: "I'll be there in an
Ohm-Farad." Needless to say I was taken aback but when I reached the
checkout line, I found out that the store manager was one of my students
from my E&M class.
