There are now spray paint for glass (Krylon). I haven't used it, but
I've seen it on a lot of decorating shows. It goes on glossy and
transparent. It should give you les streaks than the paint on kind and
it doesn't require baking. Try Michael's Craft store. Or Robert's (if
you are in Utah)

Zig, I tried to color the glass of the diver with a magic marker. It
worked well enough for one lecture. By the time I went back to it, it
had all dissolved. What I haven't tried yet is glass paint. This is
stuff you can put on ordinary glass (such as drinking glasses) and then
bake it in your oven. If done in a thin layer, it would still be
translucent enough to see the water level in the diver. Hmmm....maybe
I'll take the diver home this weekend.

But, it would be nice if they just made the thing out of green or blue
glass.

I have several Cartesian Divers # WL1040 that are made from clear
glass! Have you ever tried to see a clear glass Cartesian Diver at 10 ft
in water? They are nicely invisible, and don't tell me to use colored
water then all you can see is colored water.
Where the hell do these people find their designers/engineers, or do
they just make the parts as cheap as possible without any thought as to
how the apparatus will be used [likely].
The only good thing is it led me to explore my box of glassware odds
and ends [huge] in which I found three pre-dummy Cartesian divers one
red and two yellow.
