Yes, I found it necessary to follow up on my
children's school lessons.  Not only were there occasional
misunderstandings, there were also instances of not understanding.
In other words, they were just going through the motions without
understanding why, or without seeing the connection to other
lessons.  So I've just been making sure they get their work done
and they understand what it means and/or how it fits in to
the scheme of things.  This gets harder as they get to middle and
high school, and there's barely time for them to get their homework
done.  But you have to keep trying, they will appreciate it
someday...

Sam,
looks like you have your work cut out for you. Ship him off to Zig and let
him take him up in the Utah mountains for a fishing trip. That should cure
him of any misconceptions about altitude vs temperature. Who knows, could
cure him of a lot of things :) . I'm sending my wife out to get the book
this afternoon. I trust your judgement.

Now I need to figure out why my 10 year old came home with a 55 on his
science test. It was an Earth Science chapter. I see one big misconception
that he has - the earth warms as it moves closer to the sun, even higher
elevations on earth are warmer than lower because they are closer to the
sun. Ugh!
