As a former G.I. I can honestly say that folks that gambled by playing
around with unexploded ordinance often received early discharges, no pun
intended.

Is it hollow?  With a hole in the side?  I vaguely recall that
the ones in

the Jerryco ad had a hole, so you could easily tell that they were
no

longer "live."

If it's sealed and heavy (not hollow), then DON'T DROP IT!!!!  It
could be

like a live hand grenade!

Memories.  As a kid living on Guam I heard stories about a
neighborhood

kid who found a Japanese land mine and blew himself up while messing
with

it.  Also, I found a live round from a 20mm cannon.  It was
embedded in

the wheel-ruts of one of the beach roads, and cars had been driving
over

it for decades.

I just want to ask if anyone else on this list is getting dozens of mailings
of the phony M$ update and/or a like number of rejection notices. I ask
here since there was a warning posted last week about these and I am
getting this at both office and home and am subscribed to this list from
both email addresses. One feature of these emails is that they don't
actually display my email address as the send-to address. Rather they have
a variety of generic or strange specific addresses, yet they are showing up
in my mailboxes. I myself am not infected (at least the latest MacAfee scan
says I'm clean) and never open any of these unsolicited attachments.

Anyway, if others on this list are getting this, then the list address book
OR someone on the list may be the source. If not, then it could be one of
my other lists.

Don't clog the list with responses--contact me directly (and only if you are
having the same problem). I'll report back to the list if the answers
indicate a problem.

Thanks,

Rick

I got returned mail I never sent. About two weeks ago with the wicked screen
saver warning. I contacted msn and they said no one was officially using my
email but used it as a return address. I then just blocked all returned mail
messages from those servers and it all stopped.

Hi Paul,

I didn't realize I had message forwarding set to send as an attachment.
My copy from tap-l showed up with the message quoted and an attachment.
Strange.

Here's the message:

Andy,
It's Gordon again. I was starting to send this to the listserv but I

wasn't sure if the server checks it for viruses. I didn't want to send
this out to all TAPLer's if it might give them the very virus I'm trying

to warn them about. So I thought either you have what it takes to take
care of it or you are already "infected" and I'd let you make the
decision as to what would be best. Are you familiar with hoaxinfo.com?
This virus or one identical to it is there. I put references to it
below. You can forward my message to all if you feel it's safe.
Gordon

TAPLer's:
Andy Graham sent out a caution about an email that has a virus and its

one that disables antivirus programs. I received one which had as the
subject: "Security pack" and the sender was : "Microsoft Program
Security Center (xdjlncmduwuuyke@updates.microsoft.com)" . I put ( )'s
instead of < >'s for safety reasons. I didn't want to contact them! Do

not even open it! You might have already gotten one of these.Go to the
address below to get more info on it.. To check on this and other
viruses and suspicious email go to www.hoaxinfo.com. They forwarded me

to the site below and the appearance confirms that it is the same virus
or family of viruses. I have a question. If this has been on the
internet long enough for it to be on hoaxinfo.com, why doesn't
microsoft find a way to let everyone know about it before everyone gets
it? Are they "in" with the Antivirus software folks? Linux is
beginning to look mighty good.

Good morning tappers,

Ok--It looks like lots of people on the list are getting these, but not so
many as me--about 10/hour. It may be that the addresses of the listserves
have been raided and I am on about 6 different ones. I suspect the virus
that is carried by these messages may replicate from any machine that is
actually infected. My main suspicion of the lists is that this started at
about the same time on both of my email accounts and I am signed onto Tap-L,
Phys-L, and Physhare with both addresses (necessary to be able to post from
both home and work). Hopefully the volume will die down soon.

Thanks,

Rick
