The following came from the Dean's office this morning:

University and state officials are investigating an explosion that occurred
in an electrical control room in the John S. Toll Physics Building Sunday
morning. While servicing a new power connection to the Physics server room,
an explosion occurred starting a fire. The fire was contained to the power
distribution room in the cyclotron area. An electrical worker was trapped by
the fire and suffered severe smoke inhalation. His condition is serious and
our prayers go out to him and his family.

Most of the damage was in the electrical room although there was some water
on the first floor and in the
machine shop. There was also smoke throughout the building. There is
currently no power anywhere in the building. The fire alarms are out and
police are guarding the building and will limit access to those with valid
Ids.

The Diamondback reported "....Initially, damage to the building was
estimated at $250,000, Welsh (Fire Chief, College Park Fire Dept) said, but
that could change."
