A file will work just fine for cleaning up plexiglass. Obviously you
want a fairly fine file and you'll need to clean it off occasionally
(a wire brush works well) If you want it still smoother than that,
steel wool will work too.
We made a similar apparatus out of a "half pipe" (the tube is
just cut in half legthwise). It works great.
