Dear Physics Department Chair:

As a former Physics Department Head (South Dakota State University 1985-1997), I know the important contributions that a good demonstration/laboratory person can make to the smooth operation of a physics department. Within the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), we have a group of these resource professionals that identify themselves as the Physics Instructional Resource Association (PIRA). This group makes an important contribution to the physics teaching profession by sharing information and resources in the area of physics demonstrations and physics laboratories. One of the ways PIRA does this is by conducting workshops at the AAPT summer meetings.

The purpose of this e-mail is to make you aware of an opportunity for your lecture demonstration and/or laboratory person to receive funding to attend the PIRA sponsored Demonstration Workshops on August 3 and 4 (W12 and W34) at the AAPT 125th meeting in Boise, Idaho. The AAPT Bauder Fund will provide $200 to the first 10 people who register for the workshops who have never attended an AAPT summer meeting. This money can be used to pay for the workshop registrations ($140.00 per member, $190.00 for non-members), for the meeting registration ($190.00 for members or $240.00 for non-members), or for travel expenses.

The meeting and workshop pre registration form is available online at http://www.aapt.org/meetings/125th/125th.html. If you want to find out more information about the PIRA organization, their website is http://www.pira.nu/.

I believe this can be a significant professional development and networking opportunity for your lecture/laboratory resource person. Please conta
by e-mail at whein@aapt.org if you have any questions, or if there is any other information you need about this special offer.
