Tony (and anyone else interested),

The Institute for Chemical Education (ICE) sells a very nice kit of
optical crystals which accomplishes all that you have described.

They list it under "Optical Transform Kit" on their order form, and sell
the important parts separately as well. I didn't find any pictures, but
they have a number you can call for better descriptions.
