Subject: LCD vs. CRT

We're about to purchase 38 computers for the intro Physics lab. I'm very
much in favor of buying 38 15" LCD displays to go with them. I think they
offer better viewing quality, they're more attractive, and they save
energy and space (especially in our cramped lab rooms).

The guys I work with argue that they might not be as reliable as CRTs,
don't last as long, are more fragile and vulnerable to abuse, harder to
clean (soft plastic vs. hard glass screen), and use almost as much power
as power management-enabled CRTs. They will also add maybe 15-20% to the
price of a system.

Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks in advance.
