Brad,

Halon is definitely a fluorocarbon, hence it's been phased out for
environmental reasons. The advantage of using a halon extinguisher
was that it didn't leave a fine powdery mess everywhere. The powder
in most dry chemical fire extinguishers tends to be corrosive, so a
proper clean up is mandatory.
