SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT RESEARCH SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & ENGINEERING, PHYSICS & ASTRONOMY
Full-Time/Probationary; $3,381 - 4,073/Mo.; M-F: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of progressively responsible
journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance, repair and
operation of scientific/technical equipment including one year involving
design modifications/fabrication of complex and highly technical
equipment; comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and
equipment used in the
construction/installation/maintenance/repair/operation of physics
research/instructional laboratory equipment to include equipment with
minimum detailed instructions; thorough knowledge of equipment design
theory, drafting techniques and
repair/maintenance/troubleshooting/overhaul; knowledge of physics; possess
machine or woodworking shop skills; ability to apply previous
experience/knowledge to the design of new applications; ability to
plan/organize/coordinate the work of technical projects, review/prepare
specifications for technical equipment and design/fabricate/assemble
devices; ability to analyze equipment problems/determine repairs and
install/replace/repair/maintain a wide variety of equipment;
establish/maintain cooperative working relationships; read/write at a
level appropriate to the duties of the position; make arithmetic
computations where required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Provide technical support to Physics and
Astronomy research programs and teaching laboratories; construct equipment
for laboratories and lecture demonstrations; maintain/instruct physics
student shop; provide backup support to the departmental instructional
laboratory and Stockroom Instructional Support Specialist; work with
faculty and staff.
