What characteristics in particular? For a quick conceptual demo we place a
stack of rgb filters in between a 1 kW lamp and a liquid crystal sheet.
The students cannot "see" any visible light from the lamp, but do see the
liquid crystal sheet changing color, indicating a change in temperature of
the sheets, indicating the presence of IR radiation.
