Oersted's Effect - Simple Wire with Compass
Description: Demonstrate the magnetic field induced in a current carrying wire.
Instructions: Connect the wire to the battery to drive current through the wire. Stretch the wire straight and move it near the compass. The compass needle will deflect indicating the presence of an induced magnetic field.
This demonstration can be performed on the desktop document camera so that students can easily see it.
