|OPTICS - GEOMETRICAL OPTICS - TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION||Order|
Description: A large glass "diamond" is provided to demonstrate the principles of total internal reflection.
Actual diamonds are cut so that all of the light entering the top is reflected internally so that it comes back out of the top, which is why diamonds "sparkle". While the index of the glass is not large enough to reflect all of the light, it does reflect a good bit. One way to demonstrate this is to hold the "diamond" in your hand and notice that it is difficult to see your hand through the "diamond". You might also want to order a laser pointer to show how light moves through the "diamond".
