Description: A closed glass square of tubing has an opening at the top. Heat the tube on one side with a burner. Add a couple of drops of food coloring to the opening of the tube. The water on the warm side of the tube will start to rise. This motion is visible by the food coloring drops added in the top. Instructions: When adding water, fill to top of circular part of tubing. Do not fill to top of opening. There needs to be enough water to allow circulation, but keep in mind that the water will expand when heated. If filled to the top of the opening, water will spill on the lecture table. Hazards: The glass tube remains hot for several minutes after the demonstration is completed. Purchased/Built: purchased Setup Time: 1 hour Quant. in Demo Room: 1 Source: Central Scientific
