|MECHANICS - MOTION IN TWO DIMENSIONS - CENTRAL FORCES||Order|
Pail of Water/Pail of Nails
Description: A platform holding a vessel of some "fluid" is spun in a circle to show central forces.
Instructions: The "fluids" alluded to can be nails, plastic wire nuts, or other such (somewhat) discrete "fluids", or something continuous like water. Start the motion by "rocking" the platform back-and-forth until you have the motion going, and then try swinging it in a complete circle.
Hazards: A wet (if water is used) or cluttered mess can result from poor planning or a bad swing.
Parts: One plastic platform
Fluid (water, or other non-wet items) Paper towels for cleanup
