A long wire is suspended in the field of a permanent magnet!!! Close the switch. The wire jumps out of the magnet.This experiment demonstrates the force on a current carrying wire in a magnetic field. The force is determined by F=ILxB, where the direction is determined by LxB and the magnitude by ILBsin(theta). WARNING: Do not leave current running through the wire, or the solder will melt.
Parts: Include wire-hanging stand and magnet as shown in the picture, two wire leads and the high current DC power supply.
