Group Velocity Transparencies
# 3B33.20
Description: Two transparencies with closely-spaced parallel lines, are slowly slid across each other. One has a spacing ten percent smaller than the other, so the difference in spacing creates a moire interference pattern. Wave groups move rapidly across the picture while the wave velocity is much smaller. Wave velocity, seen as the motion of the transparency, can be seen by a marks on the transparencies. Transparency 1 and Transparency 2 can be downloaded for printing.
