Description: A large soft iron bar that is held in contact with a large horse shoe magnet becomes magnetized itself. You can use this combination to pick up a large number of nails. When the large soft iron bar is removed from the magnet, the nails fall. Purchased/Built: built Setup Time: 1 hour Quant. in Demo Room: 1 Demo References Sutton E-88 A soft iron bar held colinear with a permanent magnet will become magnetized by induction. Use a compass needle to show the far pole of the bar is the same as the near pole of the magnet.
