Description: The Atwood machine is a simple pulley system to show accelerations and tensions in strings.

Instructions: The system will be clamped to a rolling cart. One mass is placed on the small arm. When the attached string is pulled, the system is set in motion.

The Video Encyclopedia of Physics Demonstrations Disc 01-16 The small weight is removed after a period of acceleration and the resulting constant velocity is measured.
Hilton M-7c An Atwood's machine using an air pulley.
Sutton M-110 Two equal masses are hung from a light pulley. A small percentage of one mass is moved to the other side.
Freier and Anderson Ms-7 Three skeletonized aluminum pulleys are mounted together on good bearings. Many combinations of weights may be tried.
